Feel wanted
Children should experience consistent care from adults who are reliable, compassionate and genuinely invested in them.
Our first home
A small children's home in Saltash, Cornwall, progressing toward Ofsted registration and shaped around relational, trauma-informed and social work-led care.
Bracken Rise is being prepared for up to two children and young people aged 8–18. The intention is simple: create somewhere that feels recognisably like a home, where children feel safe, wanted, heard and able to stay connected to the people who matter to them.

A home, not an institution
Bracken Rise is intended to feel warm, comfortable and personal. Children will have their own bedrooms and space to express their individuality, alongside shared areas for everyday life.
The dining table is more than somewhere to eat. It can be a place for conversation, homework, games, shared meals and key-worker time. The lounge should be somewhere to relax. The kitchen should be somewhere children can learn, cook and take part in ordinary routines.
How care should feel
Children should experience consistent care from adults who are reliable, compassionate and genuinely invested in them.
Behaviour is considered through a trauma-informed lens, with curiosity about the experiences, relationships and needs underneath it.
Children should understand their plans, contribute to decisions and increasingly feel confident advocating for themselves.
Family & important people
Children should not have to manage two opposing worlds — the home on one side and their family on the other.
Wherever it is safe and appropriate, Bracken Rise intends to welcome the people who matter to a child, support regular quality time together and keep origin families, friends and wider networks involved in the child's life.
Reunification remains in view.
Where returning to birth family is safe and realistically possible, Phronesis intends to advocate for and support that direction rather than assuming residential care must be the permanent destination.
Childhood continues here
Meals, conversation, games, homework and ordinary routines are part of creating a home that feels lived in rather than institutional.
Children will be supported to engage with education that recognises their individual needs, abilities and aspirations.
Hobbies, activities, new experiences and simple opportunities to have fun remain an important part of childhood.
Cooking, shopping, self-care and everyday responsibilities can help children build confidence and practical skills for the future.
Practice & safeguarding
Behaviour is understood as communication. Responses should be grounded in empathy, curiosity, consistency and repair rather than shame.
Risk should be understood dynamically and in the context of the individual child, balancing safeguarding with autonomy, development and appropriate positive risk.
Strong communication with social workers, education, health and other professionals is intended to support coherent planning around each child.
Decisions about a future placement will need to consider the child's needs, risks, compatibility and whether Bracken Rise can genuinely provide the right environment.
Residential status
Bracken Rise House is being prepared as Phronesis Care SW Ltd's first children's home. It is not yet operating as a children's home and an Ofsted registration application has not yet been made.
Registration will be sought before the service opens. Residential referral and placement information will be published when appropriate. Wider children's services and commissioned support are available now through Nurtura Connect Ltd.
